Expressive Type Book
The goal of this project was to choose a story about a fictional city from Italo Calvino’s “Invisible Cities” novel, and represent the aesthetic of that city through visual expressive type. The book must have all the text of the story in it, but does not have to be fully legible if it lends to the characteristics of your chosen city.
My city can be described as a place that appears like heaven when you arrive, but the city gets weirder and filled with paradoxes until you have a completely distorted image from compared to when you first arrived. I wanted to show this deceiving and progressive confusion you get as you travel through the city and realize it isn’t what you first thought.
I used Laser cutting to create the negative space design on my cover page and add to the end product. I also decided to print on a light mint green colored paper which contrasted nicely with my magenta text and color scheme I have throughout the book.
